Cherry Orchard Apartment, Port Erin

We just want to express our appreciation and gratitude especially in the uncharted territory of Covid!

We visited Castletown and Port Erin early in March and looked at several flats to rent before we chose the one in the Cherry Orchard, a decision undoubtedly facilitated by the very friendly and informative help we received from Claire at the Port Erin office who showed us round. Our thanks to her for the flying start!

We returned to the mainland and set about the procedures of giving notice, obtaining references and organizing transport for goods and chattels, ably advised and guided by Diane and Rachel in Douglas. Then Covid struck… and they had to keep us in abeyance indefinitely. This was uncharted territory for everyone; we couldn’t enter the Isle of Man at all at first, then it became possible if we could demonstrate Residency (although not having lived here yet) and Rachel provided necessary paperwork to satisfy the Cabinet Office requirements for this and to show that we had left the Island before 27th March.

Next step was travel – we booked three flights which were then cancelled, with our friends in Douglas waiting for the green light to prepare for us, complete newcomers arriving to be quarantined in an as-yet unfurnished flat. This included finding some suitable items for us to buy, as well as advising us where to look for others. Finally we got a flight arriving about 8 p.m on a Sunday night, our thanks to the Manager at the Cherry Orchard for waiting there till we arrived to hand us our keys and ensure we went straight into quarantine.

Through our 14 days self-isolation in the flat Rachel continued to help with advice and made our settling in as easy as possible.  We also know that she and her colleagues will be available if we have any problems in the future. ‘Ten out of ten’ would not do justice to the service and care they have provided for us. The flat itself is all that we expected and we are looking forward to a fair few years living in Port Erin and enjoying all that this beautiful island has to offer.

We will always be deeply grateful to BGC, we hope to receive many friends visiting here once quarantine is no longer required, and if some of them consider following our example and coming to live here, we will definitely refer them to BGC for their own house-hunting!
